USB floppy drive emulator, is there such a thing? And if so, where can I get one. XP talks to the floppy using the floppy driver, not the USB driver. USB peripherals talk to a USB controller, but do not otherwise have a connection to the system bus. So they cannot appear at the x86 I/O addresses where something expecting a traditional floppy would be trying to read/write. USB keyboards and mice look like PS/2 device to DOS and BIOS by a sleight of hand called 'System Management Mode' - unfortunately this is part of BIOS/UEFI firmware and not easily/publicly available to operating systems to customize. It may be possible for a device or software to hook into BIOS routines that read/write to the floppy, but by the time you get to that prompt in the Windows XP installer, Windows is already running and not using the BIOS to read/write to devices.

I have a TEAC FD-05PUB USB Floppy Drive which was working with Windows 7. Now with Windows 10, the Floppy Drive is 'seen' by the system and has installed the SONY-FDU USB Device and its states that 'This Device is working Properly'. However, when I insert a floppy, the Floppy Drive tries to continually read the disk as if there is a fault with the disk. I have tried several disks and non are recognised. Before anybody asks, I have tried these disks on another machine and they work OK. When I remove the disk from the Floppy Drive, the Floppy Drive still seems to want to access the disk even though there is not one in the drive - the green light on the front of the drive turns on repeatedly and you can hear the motor spin. Sounds like an issue with the SONY driver to me.

The drive worked in 8 and 8.1 out of the box, using SFLOPPY.SYS it's listed as MITSUMI USB UFDD 061M USB Device in device manager. I've tried connecting it to different ports, and having windows detect and try to install drivers, but it keeps saying 'there are no compatible driver for this device'. Windows Update doesn't offer any drivers for the device either. I've searched Google/Bing for solutions, but none have worked. Not a huge issue ATM, as I don't use it much, so I'm ok with it for the moment.
