Are back on 28 November with a 2-disc anniversary edition of The Final, their farewell compilation album, from 1986. The pop duo of George Michael and Andrew Ridgely went out on a high 25 years ago, with this exceptional record that documents a short, but amazingly successful, career in pop. The Final contains six UK no.1 hits including both George Michael solo singles ( Careless Whisper and A Different Corner).

Their last really funky song, Wake me up before you go go, gave them their first UK number one. After that, most of their hits were ballads beginning with Careless whisper, which was credited as a George Michael solo although Andrew Ridgeley co-wrote the song. It made the top spot in the UK and was followed to the top spot by Freedom, credited to Wham.Next came the double-sided UK hit combining Last Christmas with Everything she wants. Only a charity record (Do they know it's Christmas, on which George joined other celebrities as Band Aid) prevented this single being yet another UK number one for Wham, but Last Christmas remains my favorite Wham song. It is a superb love song although it has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas except that George chose to use Christmas as the date in which to set the song. It returned to the UK top ten a year later.Three more UK number one hits followed - I'm your man, A different corner (credited as a George solo) and the double-sided coupling of Edge of heaven with Where did your heart go?Although nominally a duo, Andrew Ridgeley was very much the junior partner and it came as no surprise when the duo split up and George pursued a solo career.

The collection The Final stands as the most accurate compilation of the duo's hits, even including the correct single versions of hits that were not available on their respective albums. From the early bubblegum silliness of 'Bad Boys,' 'Wham! Rap,' and 'Young Guns' to the singles that made them an international pop phenomenon ('Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,' 'Everything She Wants,' 'Careless Whisper,' and 'I'm Your Man'), the hits are all here. 'Everything She Wants' and 'Freedom' are included in their single versions which did not appear on the multimillion-selling. Also included is 's first true solo hit, 'A Different Corner,' which, along with 'Careless Whisper,' hints at the later, more sophisticated styles of music that would further propel him into international superstar status.

Really there should have been anniversary editions of both Fantastic and Make It Big with all the versions and bonus stuff too. That would have been great and made this a little less disappointing.

The Edge Of Heaven The final single predictably hit no.1 in the UK charts. It managed to keep the effervescence of earlier Wham! Releases and was actually a really strong single to end on, even if it did feature a somewhat unnecessary guitar solo, that may or may not have been played by Andrew Ridgely. So there we have it. There is nothing not to like about this compilation. Were once pop royalty, along with bands like Culture Club and Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

The Final 2-disc 25th Anniversary Edition is released on 28 November on Sony. I bought the double – length cassette of THE FINAL in ’88 in France and it included “Club Tropicana” Also the “a cappella” version of “I’m Your Man” was really based around the drum machine pattern (more akin to “Battlestations”) and included a slightly longer vocal. Also for the record, the “Extended Stimulation” 12″ version (TT6:52) of I’m Your Man and the unique MUSIC FROM THE EDGE OF HEAVEN were mastered at slightly different speeds – the US MUSIC FROM version (TT6:04) is slightly faster How many versions of “Wham Rap!” are there? I read that there was a second version released on 12″ for the 2nd release of the song as a single?

Description Wham were, possibly, Britain's most commercially successful pop group of the eighties. The duo began recording funky dance manic but their biggest successes came when their music mellowed.Wham's funky period yielded the UK top ten hits Young guns go for it, Wham rap, Bad boys and Club Tropicana.

In 1997 as well as The Final. In fact it wasn’t until 2006 that the standard 7″ mix appeared on a Wham! /George Michael CD (his Twenty Five greatest hits album). Everything She Wants (Remix) Another remix which replaced the standard 7″ mix on all the compilations. It’s easy to see why, since it’s far superior to the standard version which a whole extra verse at the end. George Michael has been quoted as saying that this was his favourite song from the Wham!
